SPECIALIZATION =

Back to Homepage

Though I have much more I want and need to learn about Website Development and Graphic Design, I truly see the potential of the Internet as a medium and the power of appealing graphics and information display. While at KU I co-taught World Wide Web search classes with a colleague and in my current position I just redesigned the Evangel Library Website and implemented a Digital Audio Reserve project during Fall 2003.
Hopefully throughout this site, specifically as one examines the projects under Background=Music, and Focus=People, the specialization on Technology has become evident. Most of the items below are listed elsewhere, but shown again to demonstrate the extent of the expertise I have acquired during the MLS Experience.

Life-Long Learning & Acquistion of New Skills

  • XML and MARC: A Marriage of Convenience versus Compatibility - This paper took an indepth look at the advantages and disadvantages of using XML over MARC for cataloging library materials. During the writing of this paper I acquired much new knowledge about Web content standards and the way the library has in some ways isolated itself from newer standards such as XML. Though I argue in the end for an enhanced Dublin Core standard in XML I am very aware of the controversy over and complexity of this technological issue. (LI 814/Organizing Information, Rhonda Glazier, Fall 2002)
  • Websites - Although most are already discussed elsewhere, the following websites indicate my interest in new technologies and staying on the cutting edge of information delivery and repackaging.
      • Communication Website
      • Cosimo Medici's Library in Florence - A historical look at a library with a wonderous history, and though transformed through years, still in existence today. The Medici family story as well as the pictures of the modern restoration of this library make this site worth a look. (LI 839/History of Information, Jan Fortier, Summer 2002)
      • Digital Music Library
      • Global Music Industry
      • Lurestrap.com - I was the primary designer of this site that my father now uses for his newly created company. Due to my schedule at the time someone else finalized the site; however, I am currently updating and modifying the site as needed. (LI 862/Current Issues in Technology: Dreamweaver, Mr. Watkins, Summer 2002)
  • PowerPoints - All of these are mentioned elsewhere yet listed here for ease of access.
